What GPA covers
A Singapore GPA policy pays lump-sum benefits on accidental injury:
- Accidental death — full sum insured paid to estate or nominated beneficiary.
- Permanent total disablement — full sum insured.
- Permanent partial disablement — scaled benefit per loss-of-limb schedule (loss of one limb 50%, loss of one eye 50%, loss of hearing 75%, etc).
- Optional: temporary total disablement — weekly indemnity (typically 100% of salary, capped) for up to 104 weeks.
- Optional: accidental medical expense reimbursement — reimbursement of medical expenses arising from the covered accident, up to a sub-limit.
Geographic and time scope
GPA is 24-hours-a-day, worldwide cover unless restricted by named-country exclusions (war zones, sanctions). Pays whether the accident happens:
- During work, on a work site, in the office — same as WICA territory.
- During personal time — commuting, at home, on weekend leisure.
- During business travel overseas — same as corporate travel territory.
- During personal leisure travel overseas — unique to GPA.
Distinguishes GPA from WICA (work-related only) and corporate travel (business-trip only).
Benefit-multiple structuring
Singapore employer practice tiers benefits by job grade:
- Junior / clerical — 1× annual salary, subject to a benefit cap.
- Mid-level professional — 2× annual salary.
- Senior manager — 3× annual salary.
- Executive / C-suite — 4× to 5× annual salary to S$5m.
Caps prevent runaway premium for individual high-earners. Some employers run a flat-rate scheme (e.g., a flat sum insured per employee) for administrative simplicity in smaller workforces.
Pairing with other employee benefits
GPA fits cleanly into the employee benefits stack:
- WICA covers work-injury statutory benefits.
- Group medical covers medical bills.
- Group term life covers death from any cause (illness included).
- GPA covers death and permanent disablement from accidental cause specifically, 24/7 worldwide.
- Corporate travel covers travel-related risks including accident benefit during business trips.
All five run on the same single insurer account in most Singapore corporate-benefits setups, with shared renewal date and one claims-handover process.
Premium and underwriting
GPA premium is rated against:
- Trade classification (office work attracts a fraction of a percent of payroll; field staff, drivers, manual workers higher).
- Sum insured per employee.
- Whether weekly indemnity is included.
- Whether accidental medical reimbursement is included.
- Past claims experience.
Indicative annual premium: a low to mid annual per-employee range depending on band and trade. Office-only workforces sit at the low end; mixed trade workforces with manual workers higher.
